The Government wants the use of telemedicine in appointments and tests a reality across the country, hoping that the use of new technologies in the relationship between professionals and patients can extend to all health units in Portugal.
The goal will be discussed today, April 7, at a meeting that will discuss innovation in the health sector, which was promoted by the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health.
President’s body, Henrique Martins, told TSF that the telemedicine “is a technology like any other for medical practice and should be available in all health facilities.”
The ambition is not new and in 2013 had been the first steps in this direction. At the time an order of the NHS provided for the implementation of a telemedicine network that included two scenarios: consultations in video conferencing and real-time; and consultations based on deferred communication with the doctor to analyze information and images collected from the patient at a later date of its posting.
And for the charge of SPMS everyone can get out to gain from this change, “the Ministry [of Health] spend a lot of money in transportation from one side to the other and they sometimes even take the people feel uncomfortable by travel times and having to wake up early. ”
Henrique Martins asks open-minded, but recognizes that physical contact between health professionals and patients is essential in certain cases. Also states that “there are many other cases, especially in chronic patients in the clinical team knows the person well, allowing the contact distance which generates savings that can be invested in other areas.”
Also according to the TSF, the Government has initiated a public consultation to choose the companies that will provide telemedicine services.
Innovation in health in Portugal is an area that has grown and new technologies have played a prominent role. For example, the tele-dermatological screening already started in the northeast waiting time decreased in two years specialty consultations for just one day.
Another project that was being developed in Madeira allowed, for example, to stroke victims recover through the use of video games.
